News Release

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers will be conducting training for civilian wild land search volunteers and Volunteer Firemen. The training will be held in Greenwich on April 8,9 and 12th. This twelve hour training course normally concludes with a simulated search to allow trainees to get a feel for what an actual search is like and what to expect during the course of an actual search assignment.

On April 12, trainees will be completing actual search assignments connected with the on going search for 12 year old Jaliek Rainwalker who was reported missing by his adopted father Stephen Kerr on November 2, 2007 from 11 Hill Street in the Village of Greenwich. Search Volunteer trainees under the direct supervision of New York State Forest Rangers and experienced civilian crew bosses will be researching areas already searched last November and December and some new areas that Police feel should be searched. Property owners should be aware that these searches will be conducted in and around the Towns of Easton and Greenwich as well as the Village of Greenwich.

New York State Forest Rangers, the Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department, the New York State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation and numerous other outside police agencies, fire departments and volunteers conducted an exhaustive search of the Village of Greenwich and the surrounding area last fall to locate the missing twelve year old to no avail. The fact that Jaliek Rainwalker is still missing presents a unique opportunity for New York State Forest Rangers to utilize search volunteers from this class to actually participate in actual search assignments as part of their training.

As warm weather starts to arrive, Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell is encouraging residents to be observant of their property as they head outdoors. Police are also asking that with the arrival of warmer weather that the people who are venturing outdoors to their favorite fishing spot or kayaking, hiking or camping or to the upcoming turkey hunters to be alert and check their surroundings for any clues to the whereabouts of the missing Greenwich boy.

Anyone that may come across something on their property or that may have information concerning the disappearance of Jaliek Rainwalker is asked to contact the Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department at 518-692-9332.

Anyone that has questions concerning the upcoming training event is asked to contact New York State Forest Ranger Lt. John Solan at 583-9421.

WTEN - Missing person cases brought back to the public eye

Another unresolved case brought to the forefront Monday, 12 year old Jaliek Rainwalker, the Washington County boy who went missing in November of 2007.

"There's a need for all of these cases, but Jaliek has touched a lot of hearts," says Kim Peters, who has helped search for Jaliek in the past. "He's just a child who has disappeared off the face of the earth. That doesn't just happen."

cbs6albany - State Police plan search for missing boy

August 31, 2010 6:23 AM

Alexandra Field

GREENWICH -- Nearly three years after Jaliek Rainwalker disappeared, a special New York State Police dive team is planning to search for the 12 year old Greenwich boy.

On Thursday, divers will descend into a section of the Battenkill River in Middle Falls.

Divers have previously searched other portions of the river but Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell says water levels have been too high in the past to search the Middle Falls section of the river.

Chief Bell says the river became a place of interest early in the investigation following discussions with Jaliek's adoptive father Stephen Kerr.

Bell says Jaliek's adoptive parents are no longer participating in the police investigation.

Jaliek Rainwalker was reported missing Nov. 2, 2007.

csb6albany - Search resumes for missing teen in Washington County
Police have wanted to search this particular area since the investigation began.

It was a spot mentioned by Jaliek's adoptive father, who is a person of interest in the case..

Reporters are being kept far from the dive site and cannot see the search. But a State Police dive team was seen arriving earlier.

"It's a dangerous place to dive. There is metal and rebar and other stuff down there," Greenwich Police Chief George Bell said earlier this week.

Search for remains fruitless

Divers searched a section of the river known as the "Hell Hole" they had not been able to search in the two and a half years since the then-12-year-old disappeared.
...
The chief described the site as a gorge at the bottom of a hydroelectric dam that leads to a whirlpool.
